The Consumer Guide to Healthy Housing

The Consumer Guide to Healthy Housing addresses environmental factors around our home and how they affect our health. The list of topics is potentially endless, however we have limited ourselves in this edition to twenty five. The Guide focuses primarily on environmental issues outside the home or inherent to the home, not to products or individual behaviors inside the home. To make the Guide as clear, consistent, and easy-to-use as possible, each topic is addressed in one page only and every page answers the same six questions.

The Guide’s purpose is to inform. It is intended as a starting point; since clearly, no topic can be fully addressed in one page alone. We therefore include an appendix that provides additional resources for further information and assistance.

The Guide is a reference resource and it is written in a way that allows readers to choose to look up topics relevant to their homes and neighborhoods. It is not necessary to read the Guide from cover-to-cover (although we recommend it). Therefore basic information may be repeated in more than one topic.
