Upper Darga Valley

Natural open valley ensemble with agricultural landscape depicting the ancient hills of Jerusalem. The site includes orchards, vineyards and ancient olive tree groves. A major highway (Asher Weiner Rd.) passes through it. The southern part of the site is of a slightly different nature, with private gardens and yards in closed residential plots. This area also includes olive groves, orchard remains, planted pine trees and desert shrubs. There are concentrations of ancient trees in the valley and along the mountain ridge under the village of Sur Baher. In winter and spring, beautiful displays of blossoming geophytes and annuals may be seen. The area serves as a habitat for different bird species not commonly found in Jerusalem, including the yellowhammer and stone-curlew. The site is home to a large population of porcupine and a winter pool with amphibian species has been documented in the part of the valley that is under Armon Hanatziv. Pedestrian access.
