Jerusalem Bird Observatory

Community urban nature site in the city center. Semi-natural area used for research and environmental education. Scrubland and orchard remains, including woodlands and aquatic vegetation. Many of the local species documented at the site were rescued from other areas in the city as a response to rapid urban development. The Observatory’s main building is covered with a “living roof” where a variety of geophytes thrive. The entire facility constitutes a unique urban nature site, with natural habitats and a permanent water source. Characteristic species include amphibians, reptiles, porcupines, hedgehogs, and a large variety of migratory and stationary birds. Songbirds and sparrows nest in the walls of the building. Pedestrian, car, public transportation and wheelchair access, parking facilities available.
