The Shiloah Valley

Situated on the upper slopes of the Kidron Valley, the site is part of a large rural ensemble, contained within the city, featuring olives groves, Mediterranean vegetation with some desert species as well as plants that are typical of inhabited areas. Cliffs along the east bank of the valley are covered with long herbaceous plants such as golden henbane, Syrian peers and snapdragons. There is also, a concentration of rare plants in the valley. The site is part of the Holy Basin National Park which includes the Old City walls, and it is marked with a hiking trail. A variety of songbirds and reptiles are common to the area, and a winter pond sometimes functions as a habitat for amphibians. Pedestrian access

Old City, Mount of Olives
