Museum of Islamic Art

The L.A. Mayer Museum for Islamic Artwas founded in 1974. It houses one of the world’s foremost collections of Islamic art, a temporary exhibitions wing, and a rare collection of antique watches and clocks. The exhibits are organized chronologically into nine galleries, allowing visitors to trace the development of Islam from the 7th century to the present. Especially worth seeing are the samples of Persian tiling, Indian Mughal miniatures, and an informative section on Arabic calligraphy. A new collection of Islamic carpets was added in 1999
