Science Museum Forest

Urban Nature Site Survey No. 66. Adjacent to the Bloomfield Science Museum, to the west. Nearby streets include Ruppin Blvd. and Museum Row. Veteran cypress tree grove with special area of rock outcrops and boulders, neglected in part. The woods serve as nesting grounds for tree owls and falcons. Distinctive rock formations form a unique rugged landscape that has survived in only a few isolated places in the city. Rocky remains are covered with Mediterranean scrub and woody plants including sage, terabinth (local red pistacia oak), ivy, geophytes (saffron, cyclamen) and several rare plant species that have survived in the heart of the urban environment. Common nesting ground for jackals and porcupines, in addition to songbirds and reptiles characteristic of urban areas.  Pedestrian, car and public transportation access, parking facilities available.
