Valley of Hinnom

The Valley of Hinnom (also known as the Sultan’s Pool) is a natural ensemble in the Old City basin, which is part of the Holy Basin National Park, surrounding the Old City walls. A river basin comprising part of the Kidron Valley ecological corridor, the Valley of Hinnom includes mature trees, olive groves, caves and cliffs covered with rich shrubs and vegetation. The upper channel has been developed as a park, while sparse Mediterranean scrub characterizes the southern slopes. A variety of stable and migratory species of songbirds are common to the area, as well as small raptors and reptiles typical of urban environments. Nesting owls have been observed on the cliffs along the river bed. Pedestrian, car, public transportation and wheelchair access, parking facilities available. Urban Nature Survey Site No. 43.
